Operation Barbarossa

Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union, began on this date. Stalin was warned by Winston Churchill of Hitler’s plans but chose to ignore the warning. Barbarossa failed and was followed by additional operations to retake the initiative, Case Blue and Operation Citadel, which also failed.
