On this day, seventy-six years ago, a branch of the German resistance led by Count Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg planted a bomb underneath a table where Hitler was standing at the Fuhrer’s Rastenburg headquarters in East Prussia. The explosion wounded but did not kill Hitler. This incited the Fuhrer to wipe out the Prussian aristocracy.
